How to have Claude transcribe a meeting recording and write the minutes

Connect TemaMoji to Claude Code or the Claude desktop app, and you can ask for a transcript, Word minutes and a summary in one sentence. The recording is transcribed on your PC and never uploaded; here's exactly what does and doesn't reach Claude.

“Transcribe this recording and sum up the key points in three lines.” If Claude can do that from a file on your PC, the busywork after a meeting mostly disappears. This guide shows how to connect TemaMoji, a Windows transcription app from TemaLab, to Claude Code or the Claude desktop app so Claude can drive it.

TemaMoji does the transcription and speaker labeling on your PC; the recording is never uploaded. If you ask for a summary, though, the transcript text is sent to Claude. Section 1 explains where that line is. Transcribing from AI is a full-version feature (section 6).

1. How it works (and what Claude sees)

TemaMoji connects to Claude through MCP, the standard way for AI assistants to use apps on your PC.

  • Claude tells TemaMoji which recordings to transcribe, where to save the results and in which formats.
  • TemaMoji transcribes and labels speakers on your PC, then writes Word, text, SRT or CSV files.
  • TemaMoji returns the file locations plus the length, language, number of speakers and number of paragraphs. By default it does not return the transcript text.

Up to that point, the content of the meeting doesn't reach Claude. A summary is different: Claude has to read the text to write it. That happens in one of two ways:

  • Claude (for example Claude Code, which can read files on your PC) opens the exported text file itself. Claude Code asks for permission before reading.
  • You explicitly ask for the text to be passed to Claude, and TemaMoji includes it in the result.

Either way, the transcript is then sent to Claude, an AI service. In our own tests, asking for a summary led Claude to read the exported text file and summarize it.

2. Set it up once

With the full version installed, open TemaMoji and choose Help > Use from AI (register with Claude)…. It shows a one-line command and a config JSON tailored to your PC, with copy buttons.

Claude Code (also the Code tab of the Claude desktop app)

Run the copied line in a terminal (PowerShell, for example). It looks like this, with your Windows user name:

claude mcp add --scope user temamoji -- "C:\Users\<you>\AppData\Local\Programs\Temamoji\Temamoji.exe" --mcp

Run claude mcp list; when temamoji shows “Connected”, you're set.

The Chat tab of the Claude desktop app

  1. In the Claude desktop app, open Settings > Developer > Edit Config to open claude_desktop_config.json.
  2. Paste what you copied with “Copy config JSON” and save. If mcpServers already exists, add only the "temamoji": { … } part inside it.
  3. Quit the Claude desktop app and open it again.

3. What to ask

Use plain language, with the file's location (and where to save, if you like):

  • “Transcribe weekly-meeting.m4a in my Downloads and sum up the key points in three lines.”
  • “Turn every recording in C:\…\Interviews into Word minutes and save them in C:\…\Minutes.”
  • “Transcribe this two-person interview. There are two speakers.”
  • “Make English subtitles (SRT) for C:\…\webinar.mp4.”
  • “How long is this recording, and how long would it take to transcribe?” (an inspection — nothing is transcribed)

If you don't say where to save, TemaMoji writes “recording name.docx” next to the recording, plus an editable TemaMoji file. If a file with the same name exists, it stops before transcribing and Claude asks whether to overwrite.

It takes as long as transcribing on screen: on a PC without an NVIDIA GPU, roughly the length of the recording. For long recordings, ask “how long will it take?” first.

4. What you see, and finishing the minutes

TemaMoji opens if it was closed. A bar at the bottom of the window says the AI is at work, with progress and a Stop button, and the transcribed lines appear in the queue as they're ready.

The transcription queue showing lines of text as they're transcribed, and a bar at the bottom: AI at work, transcribing weekly-meeting.m4a, with a Stop button
While transcribing: lines appear as they're ready (actual app; the queue and the bar at the bottom are placed closer together; fictional meeting).

Once the speakers are separated, each line gets a color-coded speaker label.

The same queue with Speaker 1 and Speaker 2 labels in different colors
After speaker separation (actual app; fictional meeting).

When it's done, the transcript opens in TemaMoji. That's where you turn it into proper minutes:

  1. Rename “Speaker 1” and the others under Speaker names; every paragraph updates.
  2. Click any paragraph that looks wrong to replay that moment, and fix the text.
  3. Click Export and export to Word again.
The exported Word minutes: recording details, then each speaker's name and time above what they said
The exported Word file, opened in Word.

Press Stop on the bar to stop right away; Claude is told you stopped it and nothing is written. To run without the window, ask Claude to do it “without opening the window”.

5. Confidential meetings: keep the text away from the AI

For a meeting that must stay private, don't ask for a summary. Ask like this instead:

  • “Turn board-meeting.m4a into Word minutes. Just export the files — don't read the contents.”

Then TemaMoji returns only the file locations and counts such as length and number of speakers. Open the Word file yourself to check it. TemaMoji has no feature that sends files anywhere or deletes them, and it never changes the original recording.

The recording itself is never uploaded, whichever way you ask. TemaMoji goes online only to download the transcription model once, check your license and check for updates.

6. Free vs. full version

  • Full version: transcribe and export from Claude Code or the Claude desktop app, and export and copy everything on screen.
  • Free version: from AI, you can connect, check the license and inspect recordings (length, estimated time and speakers). If you ask it to transcribe, nothing is read and Claude is told it's a full-version feature. On screen, the free version transcribes whole recordings and exports the first 10 minutes.

It may also work with other AI tools that support MCP (we've tested it with Claude). Claude Code and the Claude desktop app are separate products, and Claude is not included in the price of TemaMoji. The “Use from AI” chapter of the user guide (PDF) covers setup and the command line in detail.

Try TemaMoji free

TemaMoji is a Windows app that transcribes meeting, interview and lecture recordings, splits them by speaker, and exports Word minutes, text, SRT subtitles or CSV. It runs on your PC — your recordings are never uploaded — and there's no limit on hours. The free version transcribes whole recordings on screen (export and copy cover the first 10 minutes). The full version can also be driven from Claude Code or the Claude desktop app.
